What is Peanut Sauce?
Peanut sauce, also known as Satay Sauce, originated from Indonesia, and although it is mainly associated with Asian cuisine, it now makes part of global cuisine and is made and loved by many people worldwide! Tradtionally, peanut sauce is made using ground roasted peanuts, spices, and water. Many different recipes exist but the main ingredient remains to be smooth or crunchy peanut butter or roasted peanuts. It's consistency can be adjusted by adding more or less water.
How to Make Sriracha Peanut Sauce (Step by Step)
Making this sauce is super easy. In fact, it takes just 8 ingredients and less than 5 minutes to make!
Although I prefer a crunchy version of this sauce by using crunchy peanut butter, this can be easily substituted with smooth peanut butter if you prefer a smoother version 🙂 Also, even though this sauce contains sriracha, it is not overly hot or spicy, so feel free to taste adjust the amount should you want your final product to be more spicy!
Ingredients for Spicy Peanut Sauce
For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- Peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
- Rice vinegar
- Soy sauce
- Maple syrup (brown sugar or honey can also be used)
- Ground ginger
- Sriracha sauce
- Sesame oil
- Water
Making the Sauce
All you need to do is to place all ingredients starting with 4 tsp. of water in a food processor. I suggest adding more water using a teaspoon slowly as you go so that you can control the consistency to your liking. Just pulse for a couple of minutes until everything is incorporated and a creamy peanut sauce is formed. Feel free to adjust your ingredients accordingly.
You can also use an immersion blender or bullet blender to blend your ingredients 🙂
This recipe makes around ⅓ cup of sauce, which is enough for 2-3 burgers. Feel free to adjust amounts accordingly to your needs.
Storing and Serving Sriracha Peanut Sauce
Store the peanut sauce in a glass container, covered, and in a refrigerator until using. Before serving, warm the sauce in the microwave at 20 second increments. You may also need to add some water again until your desired consistency is reached. Use the sauce within 5 days.
As already discussed, this vegan sriracha peanut sauce can be used in a number or ways. It's a great dip for chicken skewers, bao buns, or bread. Also, it's good as a salad dressing or as a sandwich or burger sauce. It's also great as a tofu or chicken marinade!
